Blantyre. Brrrrr!

Hi everyone,

We got into Blantyre at about 5 yesterday afternoon. It's cold! The journey all went pretty smoothly , although Air Malawi had to borrow a plane to fly us from Jo'burg, so there was a bit of a delay there! Yesterday was Republic Day in Malawi so we just missed some quite big celebrations, including a football match between Malawi and Swaziland at the stadium just down the road (3-1 Malawi!) - we met someone who had been there at the lodge where we're staying and he said it was an amazing experience.

We haven't really seen much of Blantyre yet aside from a 20 minute cab ride from the airport. We're going to go for a walk with the other 4 girls on the project after breakfast and then we're being picked up and driven 4.5 hours to Monkey Bay, where we're staying for the rest of the trip. Last night was spent drinking Carlsberg (there is a factory in Blantyre, so it's everywhere here) and eating steak and chips and thus avoiding culture shock of any kind!

Right, we have to clear the bags out of our room now and go and find some breakfast, hopefully post from Monkey Bay soon.

Andy and Amy
